York Pass

What is it?   York Pass is an added value sightseeing card giving you the flexibility to visit top attractions in the city and beyond! Pick a pass duration that matches your visit and simply show your York Pass at any attraction included in the guidebook to enter for free. It's sightseeing made easy! Available as a plastic card, pdf format to print out at home and more recently we have added a digital option to enable you to have your pass sent directly to your mobile device (please note if you would like digital passes you will need to collect a guidebook from the Visitor information centre on arrival in York)   York Pass includes: Free entry to attractions, tours and museums including JORVIK Viking Centre, York Minster, York Dungeon, York's Chocolate Story and many more beyond York such as Castle Howard   Free 1-Day  City Sightseeing "Hop on Hop off" Bus Tour  ticket worth £14  to explore York and discover all of its iconic attractions Free guidebook packed with helpful info and maps   Exclusive special offers also available to York Pass holders including evening entertainment, cafes & restaurants   How does it work? York Passes are available for either 1, 2 or 3 days and for both adults and children (child pass 5 - 16). We do not offer a senior citizen pass or concessions.  One day pass is valid for a calendar day Two day pass is valid for two consecutive calendar days Three day pass is valid for 3 days out of 6 days from the first point of activation -  giving you the opportunity to enjoy perhaps a day at the coast or visit the Dales with one of the discounted tours available as a special offer in the YorkPass guidebook. Six day pass is valid for 6 consecutive calendar days - perfect for visitors staying longer Passes are activated upon entry at the first attraction of your visit. We always advise customers to start using their pass first thing in the morning as from then on it works on a calendar day basis, not 24 hour period.  York Pass is not a fast track pass - York is a relatively small city with the city centre attractions close together and within easy walking distance. The road train is free with the pass can transport you from York Minster to the National Railway Museum. A City Sight seeing 24 hour bus ticket is free with each pass.   The York Pass is also subject to a "purse value" of maximum gate prices (a total value of attraction entries) related to the number of days on your pass. For example; with a 3 day adult York Pass (online price: £70 ) you benefit from  £225.00 worth of attraction entry! If you exceed your "purse value", the pass will expire. Jorvik Viking Centre

The world famous JORVIK Viking Centre is a ‘must-see’ for visitors to the city of York and is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the UK, welcoming over 18 million people in the past 30 years. See the Muslim trader and the Dirham!    Discover Viking York The remains of 1,000 year old houses are revealed beneath your feet, objects taken from the excavations are explored and Viking-age timbers are brought before your eyes.   With an updated ride experience and state-of-the art galleries showcasing a unique collection of Viking artefacts visit the newly re-imagined JORVIK Viking Centre and discover York’s fascinating Viking legacy.   New Ride experience with the sights, sounds and of course, smells, of the Viking-Age Discover the lives of the inhabitants of 10th-century York as you travel around the reconstruction of the city. All that you see during your visit is based on actual archaeological evidence found during the Coppergate excavation, with emphasis on recreating every detail of the experience; from the flora and fauna growing in the ground to the breeds of animals portrayed and even the splashes of natural dyes found in one of the backyards. Self Drive Boat

Take the helm on board your own self drive motor boat! Book a morning Red Boat hire in advance or a weekday afternoon hire. Why not try your hand at skippering your own boat by hiring one of the fleet of Self-Drive Red Boats?! They are fantastic fun, safe and easy to drive. Enjoy a leisurely maximum -hour hire, exploring York from the helm of your own self-drive motorboat. Become a captain and explore the sites of York’s riverside in style!   The boats can accommodate up to 8 people and so provide plenty of room for you all to head out on your own aquatic adventure, exploring the same river that brought the Vikings to the beautiful city.   You will receive full instructions on how to operate your motor boat along with the safety and river rules, whilst life jackets will be provided for any children.   Boats leave every 30 minutes from 10:00 AM but self-drive boats are for 1 hour - please make mention of your desired time in the comments box.   Your ticket includes Hire your own self drive boat for up to 1 hour (max. 8 passengers per boat)    When booking, you are required to arrive at the Red Boat Hire Point 15 minutes before the time of hire to allow time for the rules of the river, area of operation and boat handling instructions to be explained. Should you arrive late then you will lose your booking.   Deposits A minimum, returnable cash security bond of £40 is required for all hires. The security deposits must be paid in full cash by cash upon arrival at the landing.  Part or all of the deposit will be retained if: The boat is more than 10 minutes late returning to the landing (unless the hirer can satisfy the Red Boat Staff that there is a valid reason). The boat is excessively dirty and requires more than 5 minutes cleaning. The boat is damaged in any way. (Please note that we or our agents reserve the right to refuse single sex groups)   Where can we go?  Red Boat operating area, so with a one hour hire you will be able to take in the whole city from the river. Please note that the Red Boats cannot be taken past Clifton Bridge or the Millennium Bridge. You are not allowed to moor the boat up and disembark at any point on the river other than at our Red Boat Hire Point at King’s Staith. Can anybody hire them? The person hiring the Red Boat must be at least 18 years old and be able to provide a valid means of ID. People under the influence of alcohol are not permitted on board and no alcohol is to be taken on board. You are more than welcome to bring a picnic and soft drinks along with you to enjoy on board. Conditions of Hire The hirer MUST be 18 years or over, you may be asked to provide ID. The hirer MUST NOT be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Maximum of 8 people per boat. All children under the age of 10 MUST wear a lifejacket. The hirer MUST read and abide by the RULES OF THE RIVER, which are displayed on board. The hourly charge and security deposit MUST be paid in full by cash before the boat is let. We or agents reserve the right to refuse to hire a Red Boat to anyone deemed likely to breach the terms of hire. All male or all female parties may be refused hire. The hire will be terminated if customer behaviour is seen to be/reported to be unacceptable.      

York day trip by train

Welcome Arrive at King’s Cross station at 7:30am for your 8:00am departure, and meet our representative by the ticket office. They will check you in, give you a welcome pack, and escort you to your reserved seats for your arrival in York at 9:51 am.  York  Unrivalled in Britain for its magical charm and beauty, this walled city on the River Ouse was the northern capital in Roman times.  Open Top Bus Tour  The Open Top Bus Tour departs from outside the station every 20 minutes and takes you all around the ancient city, including the famous medieval street, the Shambles; museums and galleries such as Castle Museum; and York Minster.   Jorvik Viking Centre Discover history under your feet, explore the stories of people living a 1000 years ago, Experience the real thing - the smell, the rider and much including Muslim connections! With Arabic commentary. Silks and a cowrie shell found in York reveal trade links with Central Asia and the Red Sea. Arab scholars such as Ibn-Fadlan recount 10th century Norse trading expeditions to Baghdad, a major centre of the Islamic world. Therefore this contact is represented and trade by including an Arab Trader who could have journeyed to Jorvik from the Near or Middle East. He carries with him a supply of silks that he is hoping to sell in Jorvik. Archaeological artefacts from Coppergate include a silk cap and a small silk reliquary pouch.
